Installing sensors above the ceiling

With grid transparency of 80% or more sensors (motion, smoke, fire) can be installed above the ceiling without losing range. This is met by a cell size of 100×100 mm or larger — below this size the grid is too dense.

Open cell ceilings — what types are there

Open cell ceilings are a metal grid suspended on an exposed grid or a T-grid — an open structure that doesn't hide installations above the ceiling and allows easy service access. We offer three variants. Structurally, all are based on the same grid with a 40 mm profile height — they differ in cell geometry or the way they're fixed to the slab.

If you're not sure where to start — the classic open cell ceiling with a 100×100 mm cell is a universal choice, that works in almost any commercial interior: offices, restaurants, shops and shopping malls. That's why it's our standard — the other variants are chosen for specific needs.

CLASSIC Standard — the basic and most popular variant of open cell ceiling. Square cells in eight sizes, from 50×50 to 200×200 mm, the standard is 100×100 mm — this ratio gives a good balance between airiness and covering installations, which is why it works almost anywhere. Exposed grid, self-supporting installation, available from stock in black, white and silver.
Where to use it: offices, restaurants, shops, shopping malls, receptions, corridors — universally wherever fast delivery and a proven design matter.

LINEAR — the same construction and profile height as the classic variant, but a different cell geometry: rectangular, e.g. 300×50, 300×100, 300×200 mm. The effect is a clear, directional line pattern on the ceiling.
Where to use it: corridors, elongated interiors, circulation routes — wherever you want to draw the eye along the space.

GLK — the same cell sizes as the classic variant (50–200 mm), but installed on a T-grid instead of an exposed grid. This is a separate installation system. Available only in white.
Where to use it: buildings where a T-grid fits the slab construction better — e.g. when a tile ceiling on the same grid type is already being installed in the same room.

How an open cell ceiling is installed

We are the manufacturer — we supply the material and carry out the installation.

01
Marking out

Use a laser level to mark the ceiling height line and the hanger installation points on the slab.

02
Wall profiles

Install the wall angle around the entire perimeter of the room, along the marked line.

03
Ceiling hangers

Fix eyelet wires and system hangers to the slab with anchors — at the points marked during layout.

04
Main profiles

Hang them on the hangers and join them with connectors. Start and end the layout with a main profile at least 300 mm from the wall.

05
Cross profiles

Join them to the main profiles at right angles — this creates a 600×600 mm grid ready for infill.

06
Grid tiles

First, on a flat surface, assemble grid tiles from the top and bottom profiles (F and M) into a 600×600 mm module. Fill the grid with the finished tiles from the centre of the room towards the walls. Cut the pieces near the walls to size with sheet metal shears.

Each of these steps is described in more detail — with technical drawings and a tool list — in the installation manual PDF.

Glossary
Open cell ceilings
A metal grid suspended below the slab — an open structure with no infill, so it doesn't hide installations above the ceiling and makes service access easier.
Cell
The gap between the grid bars — a single square opening. The smaller the cell, the denser the grid and the lower the ceiling's transparency.
Exposed grid / T-grid
Two ways of fixing the same grid to the slab. The exposed grid is TWINMAX's own system (classic/linear); the T-grid (GLK) uses T-profiles, known from tile ceilings.
Ceiling transparency
The percentage of open area in the grid — determines light access and visibility of installations above the ceiling.
Fire reaction class A2 (non-combustible)
The material's non-combustibility class per PN-EN 13501-1, confirmed by a CE certificate.
How much does an open cell ceiling cost?
The price starts from 88 PLN/m² for a complete set in a standard colour (black, white, silver). The exact price depends on cell size, colour and order area. We prepare a quote within 15 minutes — just enter the m² and colour in the form.
How long does delivery take?
Colours black, white and silver are always in stock (over 3,000 m²) — we ship within 1 business day. Other RAL colours and wood finishes are made in 5–10 business days. We deliver throughout Poland.
Where is an open cell ceiling used?
The classic 100×100 mm variant works almost everywhere — offices, restaurants, shops, shopping malls, receptions and corridors, wherever fast delivery and a proven design matter. The linear variant draws the eye along elongated interiors and circulation routes. GLK, installed on a T-grid, works well in shopping centres and airports — especially where a tile ceiling on the same grid type is already installed in the same room. The open grid structure makes service access to installations above the ceiling easier regardless of the variant chosen.
Is an open cell ceiling non-combustible?
Yes. TWINMAX open cell ceilings are made of galvanised steel strip and have a fire reaction class of A2 — a non-combustible material per PN-EN 13964:2014. CE certificates are available for download in the section above.
What's included in the set?
A complete set for 1 m² contains everything you need for installation:
  • Steel profiles F and M (grid elements) — 2.78 pcs/m²
  • Cross profiles 600 mm — 2.76 pcs/m²
  • Main profiles 2400 mm — 0.70 pcs/m²
  • Steel profile connectors — 0.56 pcs/m²
  • Eyelet wires and hangers — 2.10 pcs/m²
  • Wall angle 2.0 m — according to room perimeter
You don't need to buy anything else — ready to install from day one.
What does installing an open cell ceiling look like?
Installing an open cell ceiling doesn't differ significantly from installing an Armstrong ceiling or other suspended systems — any construction crew can handle it. The process is simple:
  • Mark the level line on the walls and install the wall angle
  • Hang the main profiles on eyelet wires screwed to the slab
  • Slide the cross profiles into the main profiles
  • Assemble the grid tiles from F and M profiles — directly on site
  • Place the finished tiles on the structure
Download: installation manual PDF →
Can I order just the material without installation?
Yes — by default we sell the material together with installation instructions, and the client or their crew carries out the installation. We also offer installation as an additional service, priced separately.
How do I place an order?
It's simple:
  • Fill in the form below (m², colour, cell size)
  • A specialist will call you back within 15 minutes with a quote
  • After confirmation — we ship the material within 1 business day

What is a classic open cell ceiling?
It's the most popular variant of open cell ceiling — a metal grid with square cells from 50×50 to 200×200 mm, suspended on a system grid. The market standard is a 100×100 mm cell. Available from stock in black, white and silver, other RAL colours and wood-look finishes on order. Used in offices, restaurants, shops and shopping malls — wherever open space above the ceiling and easy access to installations matter.
How does a linear open cell ceiling differ from the classic one?
A linear open cell ceiling has rectangular cells (e.g. 300×50, 300×100, 300×200 mm) instead of square ones — this creates a clear, directional line pattern on the ceiling. The panel module is, as in the classic variant, 600×600 mm. The construction and installation method are the same as in the classic variant, only the cell geometry differs. The linear variant works well in corridors and elongated rooms, where the lines draw the eye along the space. Individual quote.
What is a GLK ceiling?
GLK is an open cell ceiling installed on a T-grid, the same one used in tile ceilings — instead of the standard exposed grid. Cell sizes are exactly the same as in the classic variant: from 50×50 to 200×200 mm, the standard being 100×100 mm. It's a separate product from Classic — it only differs in the way it's fixed to the slab, which can be more convenient for certain ceiling constructions. Individual quote.
Classic, linear or GLK — how to choose?
This is a question about room scale and visual effect, not technical parameters — structurally all three variants work the same way, and cell sizes for classic and GLK are identical (50–200 mm). Classic is a universal choice available from stock. Linear works where a directional pattern matters — corridors, elongated interiors. GLK, installed on a T-grid, can be more convenient for certain ceiling constructions. If you're not sure — send us the area and building type, and we'll help pick the variant with the quote.
What is the profile height of an open cell ceiling?
The grid profile height is 40 mm — the same for the classic, linear and GLK variants. This value determines the minimum space you need to reserve below the slab for installing the structure, regardless of the chosen cell size or colour.
